engineering discipline that deals with the design,
construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally
built environment, including works like Roads, Bridges, Canals,
Irrigation Canals, River Navigation,
Water works, Sewers, Dams, Power plants, Transmission
Towers/Lines, Railroads, Highways, Tunnels, Shipping Canals,
Traffic Control, Mass Transit, Airport Runways, Terminals,
Industrial Plant Buildings, Skyscrapers, etc.
Civil engineers will always be needed to maintain and repair
existing facilities and structures and to construct new ones.
Civil engineering takes place on all levels: in the public and
private sector. Civil engineering graduates can also go in for
research and take up teaching or they can open their own
independent consultancy services. After doing BE, one can look
for jobs in road projects, building work, consultancy firms,
quality testing laboratories or housing societies, offshore
structures, bridges, tunnels, highways, transit systems, dams,
airports, harbours, water supply and wastewater treatment
